EVELYN M. CHECK
KING, WI (FORMERLY OF ROSHOLT, WI) Age 87 – died on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. She was born on March 30, 1920 in Portage County, WI, a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Somers) Gavin. She married Henry H. Check on October 26, 1940 in Polonia, WI.
Evelyn is survived by her husband: Henry, two daughters: Barbara Zinda of Rosholt, and Margaret (Paul) Larson of Rosholt, five granddaughters: Sara Zinda of Kimberly, Leslie (Fiancé: Ryan Kuklinski) Zinda of Rosholt, Brooke (Jeremy) Napiwocki of Greenfield, Allie Larson of LaCrosse, and Elizabeth Larson of Rosholt, and a brother: Vernon Gavin of Stevens Point. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother: Ben Gavin, and a sister: Emily Kurszewski.
Evelyn had been employed as the food service director at the Wisconsin Lion’s Camp in Rosholt for many years. She had been a member of the Nelson-Kaminski American Legion Auxiliary Unit 509 – Rosholt. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. Evelyn became a resident of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in November of 1999. A private memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Wisconsin Veterans Home-Ainsworth Hall Chapel, with Father Paul Vanden Hogen, officiating. Interment will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated and can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 8462, Chicago, IL 60680-8462 in memory of Evelyn M. Check. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
