Frederick F. Frater's Obituary
Frederick F. Frater, age 89, of Wild Rose, passed into eternal peace on September 10, 2017. He was born June 24, 1928 in Waupaca, WI, to Fred C. and Hazel (Frost) Frater. Fred graduated from Wild Rose High School in 1946. He married the late Virginia Strom on January 20, 1951, and together they had five beautiful children. They were married for 61 years, until her death in 2012.
Fred was a member of the United States Armed Forces, serving during both World War II and the Korean War for a total of 34 years. He retired as Command Sergeant Major of the Army. At the time of the events of September 11th, 2001, he once again became an active member of the military, working out of Appleton, WI as a liaison between families in the US and their soldiers deployed overseas. He was an active and enthusiastic member of both the American Legion and the VFW. Fred also had a long career as a Sergeant in the Wisconsin State Patrol, which took him and his family all over Wisconsin. After retiring from the Wisconsin State Patrol, he spent many years wintering in Florida. While home in Wisconsin, he participated with the Wild Rose Historical Society, along with his activities in the American Legion and VFW.
Fred is survived by his children, Jack (Carole) Frater of Wild Rose, WI; Bobbi Brown of Madison, WI and Fritz Frater; his grandchildren: Raechel Pundsack, Gabriel (Jessica Benish) Johnson, Jamie (Stacey) Groshek, Nathan Frater, Abigail (David) Johnson, Mischel (Ted) Larson, Nissa Sandley, Stacey Frater, Christie Frater, Eric Frater, Ian, Spencer, Sydney and Izabella Stanosek-Rockwood; his brother Willard (Kathy) Frater of Wild Rose, WI and many great-grandchildren, beloved friends, and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Frater; brothers, George and Jack; his son, David and his daughter, Ann.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 28, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the Dopp Memorial Chapel. Rosemary Salzman will officiate. Burial of Cremains with Military Honors will be held after the service at the Greenvale Dopp Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday from 10 – 11 A.M. at the Dopp Memorial Chapel. The Holly Funeral Home of Wild Rose is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials be made to DAV Dept. of WI, 1253 Scheuring Rd. Suite A, De Pere, WI 54115-1070.
