GARY R. PETERSON
WAUPACA, WISCONSIN Age 81 passed away on Friday, September 1, 2006 at Appleton Medical Center in Appleton, WI. Gary was born October 11, 1924 in Waupaca, WI; the son of Theodore and Florence (Johnson) Peterson. He was baptized in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, Waupaca. On June 22, 1947 Gary married Arlene Hawkins at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Gary worked for 38 years at the Wisconsin Veterans Home as a fireman then purchasing agent, jobs he enjoyed as there was always something new to learn. He was a Charter Member, Past President and Council Member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Past President and Treasurer of Trinity Fellowship Club. Gary served his country in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII and the National Guard for 28 years, retiring as a Captain. He was a Life Member of VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, First Division Association and 32nd Division Veterans Association. He spent his lifetime watching, identifying and feeding his wild birds. He was an avid reader. Gary is survived by his wife of 59 years, Arlene Peterson of Waupaca, WI; his daughter, Susan (Thomas) Johnson of Waupaca, WI; his beloved grandchildren, Theodore (Ted) and Hannah Johnson of Waupaca, WI; his sister, Phyllis (Stan) Thatcher of Appleton, WI and his uncle, Elmer (Arlene) Johnson of Waupaca, WI.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Salter. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Reverend Dr. Charles L. Tews will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4 to 8 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a VFW service at 8 PM, and also on Wed. morning from 10 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will be at the Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King. A Memorial Fund has been established in Gary's name. Who is wise and understanding among you?
