George Robert Dowhen's Obituary
George Robert Dowhen Sr., age 87 of Wautoma passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at his residence. George was born on October 19, 1930 in Chicago, the son of Robert and Bessie (Telfer) Dowhen. After the death of his father, he and his mother moved to Wild Rose, WI in 1941, where George attended grade and high school. He graduated high school in 1949. George and Lois were married in 1952 in Glenview, IL and settled in Wild Rose where they lived until 2000 when they moved to Wautoma.
In earlier years, George served in the United States Air Force. George worked at Colligan Motors for many years, owned Wild Rose Resale, and worked for the Wild Rose Maintenance Department, where he eventually retired. He was an active member of the Wild Rose Fire Department. He also belonged to the Retreads Motorcycle group and the Christian Motorcycle Association. George was also a member of the Wild Rose Methodist Church and went with friends on volunteer missions.
George is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois Dowhen of Wautoma; a daughter, Barbara (Kenton) Brehmer of Almond; three sons, Andrew (Xiaoli) Dowhen of Wild Rose, George (Lisa) Dowhen of Waupaca and Joel Dowhen of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Megan) Brehmer of Schaumburg, IL, Ross (Nicky) Brehmer of Las Vegas, NV, Shanna (Julio) Maldonado of Kenosha and Zheng Xiang “Emy” Dowhen of Irvine, CA; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jackson, Kyle, Zoe, Mayah, Noah and soon be born, Kiarah; two nephews, Scott (Toni) Habegger and Steven (Lisa) New; two nieces, Julie Habegger and Susan New; great-nieces, Megan, Samantha and Anjulie Habegger; a sister-in-law, Anne Habegger; other close relatives and friends.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie (Telfer) Dowhen, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reidar (Anna) Juul. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter Erica Brehmer, sister-in-law Karen New, and brother-in-law Don New.
A funeral service will be held Monday June 11, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Wild Rose. Reverend Pamela Priewe will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 9AM until the time of service at 11AM. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date
