George Lehmann's Obituary
George E. Lehmann, age 89, of King, WI., formerly of Watertown and Lake Mills, WI, died peacefully on Friday, July 19th, 2013 in Hartford, WI. He was born in Watertown, on November 15, 1923, a son of the late George and Minnie (Conrad) Lehmann. George attended Watertown Public Schools. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by Pastor Kurt Timmel. George attended Watertown High School but left early to serve his country during World War II. He proudly served in the Pacific Theater with the Seabee division of the U.S. Navy. He also served in the National Guard as a member of the 32nd Red Arrow Division. He was a member of the National Guard Band. George married Elaine C. Schmidt on July 26, 1942. She preceded him in death on January 4, 2004. He was active in many volunteer ventures, the Madison Opera Guild, the Circus World Museum and at the VA Hospital in Madison and the Veterans Home at King. He was a proud member of the AmVets, one of the founding members of Post 35 in Watertown, a 60 year member of the American Legion in Madison and Wisconsin Rapids and also the VFW. George was involved in church work, serving in various capacities, and on the original building committee and Lakeside Lutheran High School. He was also active in the Builders for Christ program of the WELS, he had also served as project manager for several church projects. After retirement from construction work, he drove bus for Lakeside Lutheran High School. George was an avid sports fan, he loved baseball and his claim to fame was being a catcher for Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller shortly after they both returned from World War II. He also loved the Packers and Badgers. The last ten years of his life were spent at the Veterans Home in King where he was active in the wood shop creating many unique items and gifts. Survivors include a Daughter: Susan (Dale) Mueller, Hartford, WI; Son: Peter (Jane) Lehmann, Watertown, WI; 4 Grandchildren: Sarah Mueller, Hartford, WI; Emily (Dan) Anderson, Pewaukee, WI; Kristy Lee Lehmann, Nashville, TN; Joshua Lehmann, Watertown, WI. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Margaret (Peggy) and two sisters. A Funeral Service to celebrate George's life will be held at Wisconsin Veterans Home-Main Chapel, King, at 10:30 AM on Thursday, July 25th, 2013, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke, officiating. Interment and Military Honors will be held at Central WI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, King. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service at the Main Chapel.
