Gerald "Jerry" D. Strachota's Obituary
Gerald (Jerry) D. Strachota died peacefully on May 24, 2025 at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King after a long struggle with chronic kidney failure. Jerry distinguished himself with his sense of humor and acts of kindness; always ready to lend a hand or to sit and chat for a while, Jerry was well-liked and will be missed by many.
He was born on May 3, 1939 in Wausau, Wisconsin, to parents Oscar and Helen (Schroeder) Strachota. A graduate of Wausau Senior High School, Jerry worked in family businesses and served during the 1960s for U.S. Army Intelligence in West Germany and later in England for the National Security Agency.
Jerry Strachota was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Russell (Margaret), Roger (Olive), James (Marlene), sisters Jean (George) Muelrath and Virginia (Russell) Day, niece Janet Alemi and nephews Brian Muelrath and Fr. Mike Strachota. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Ayala (Dan) and a couple of generations of nephews and nieces, many of whom he stayed in regular contact.
A grave site prayer service with a military honor guard will be held at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, Wisconsin on Monday, June 2 at 12:30 p.m. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at King for the care and support that they provided through the years. Appreciation is also extended to the staff of ThedaCare Hospice who cared for him in his final days.
