Gerald Shanklin's Obituary
Gerald A. Shanklin, 81, Amherst,
died early Saturday morning, February 11, 2006, at the Iola nursing home. He was born in Amherst, on October 28th, 1924 to
the late George and Miney (Mitcheltree) Shanklin. He served in the Army for over 6 years. He was stationed in Europe and Korea during WWII, and the Korean War. He married Ruby(Pask) on January 2, 1954. They moved to their current residence in 1957 and took up dairy farming. He retired from farming in the late 80s, and remained an avid gardener until his death. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing(especially ice fishing), cooking,
and reading western novels. He is survived by his wife, six children; Judy (Karl) Driebel of Iola, Bonnie Shanklin of Vancouver, WA, David (Diane Stroik) of Amherst, Terri Ostricki of Stevens Point, Cathy (Alan) Kunst of Almond, and Marshall of Amherst; eight grandchildren, Heather (Tom) Boyle, Megan and Amanda Driebel, Colby and Colin Shanklin, Wessley and Wyatt Ostricki, and Orion Kunst; three great-grandchildren,Tyler, Bryant and Holly Boyle; one brother, William(Debbie) of Scandinavia; one sister, Dorothy Rusch of Stevens Point; and longtime family friend, Elisabeth Sharkey of Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, who died as children, and one granddaughter, Carly, of Vancouver, WA. His funeral will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church of Amherst, on Saturday, February 18th at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. In Lieu of Flowers, a memorial fund is being set up at the church.
