Glenn R. Murty
Wild Rose, WI Glenn R. Murty , 87, died March 19, 2005 unexpectedly at his home in the township of Rose, Waushara Co. He was born May 24, 1917 in St. Paul, MN the son of Rodney Murty and Blanche (Etheridge) Murty. He graduated from Wild Rose High School in 1934. He was active in sports, drama and band. He attended the University of Minnesota for one year. He married Jeanette S. Olson, daughter of Ole G. and Mary (Legried) Olson on Sept. 23, 1941 at the Dell Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, MN. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was stationed at Morehead, KY, Potomac Heights, MD and Cambridge, MA. While in service he x-rayed shells and other explosive devises including US, German and Japanese shells. Glenn was honorably discharged in November 1945, with the rank of Electrician’s Mate First Class. After service he was employed by The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA in 1946 in radiographic and X-ray capacities. He returned to Wild Rose in September 1946 and worked at the Wild Rose CO-OP. He later ran the Murty Insurance business until he retired. Glenn served on the Waushara County Board for many years representing the Village of Wild Rose and the townships of Rose and Springwater as well as a Supervisor on the Township of Rose Board. He was active in the Lions for forty-nine years locally and served in many capacities from local office to District Governor. Glenn & Jeanette attended many Lions International Conventions around the world. Glenn was active in the American Legion in Wild Rose. He distributed flags for Memorial Day for 57 years for Mt. Pleasant, Wild Rose Union and Howe Cemeteries. He participated as an honor guard many times and coached the local American Legion baseball team. He was active in fund-raising for the Wild Rose Hospital and antique shows at the Wild Rose United Methodist Church. He was President of the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association, mowing the cemetery grounds for many years. He is survived by his sister Beverly Murty Ansorge, Stevens Point, and a sister-in-law Georgia “Dolly” (Jerry) Olson Wesely, Austin, MN. He is also survived by two nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. In compliance with his wishes, there will be no funeral ceremony. A memorial visitation will be held at The Wild Rose Lions Club from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26th. for friends and family. Burial of his ashes will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Town of Rose, Waushara County at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Murty Scholarship Trust.
