GORDON L. HARRIS
WAUPACA, WISCONSIN Gordon peacefully passed to eternal life at Crystal River Nursing Home on February 10, 2010. He was a young 95 year-old, born on August 7, 1914 in New London to the late Bert and Adlaide (Goodacre) Harris. The third child in their family of ten children, Gordon fondly remembered his life in the country. On June 9th, 1934 Gordon married Leona Gruenstern. During their 60 years together, they worked their farm and until recently, Gordon still grew a tomato plant on the patio. Gordon was proud of the years he was a long haul trucker for H.O. Wolding and other local companies. He was Wolding's first driver ever to go into New York City. Prior to farming, he was a supervisor for an Allis Chalmers airplane supercharger plant in Milwaukee, a part of the WWII effort. Gordon loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed showing his lifetime fishing license. Gordon is survived by his brothers, Andrew and Harold (Helen); sisters, Marion Goodacre, Tressie Hunter, and Lucy (Laverne ) Miller; a sister-in-law, Alice Harris; a brother-in-law, Ceylon (Joyce) Gruenstern; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Barbara Vander Zanden and Mark (Gayle) Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leona Harris; three brothers, William, Leon, and Forest Harris; and a baby sister, Elizabeth. A Memorial Service will be on Friday, February 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Waupaca with a lunch to follow. Family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00AM on Friday at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Waupaca. The inurnment service will be held in the spring at Rural Cemetery in the Town of Dayton. A memorial is being established to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
