age 85 – passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born on October 31, 1926 in Mineral Point, WI, the son of Harvey and Margaret (Anderson) Harris. He married Betty Frederickson on August 18, 1952 in Mineral Point, WI. She preceded him in death on December 2, 2011.
Harland is survived by his six children: Linda (Larry) Raddatz of Nelsonville, Leland (Christy) Harris of Stevens Point, Duane Harris (Friend: Judy Watland) of Amherst Jct., Don Harris of Nelsonville, Ron Harris of Amherst Jct., Kurt (Betty Jo) Harris of Amherst Jct., five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived two sisters: Millie Horn of Santa Barbara, CA, and Darlene Schmelzer of Madison, a brother: Francis (J) Harris of Titusville, PA, nieces and nephews. Harland was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, three brothers-in-law, and a niece.
Harland had been employed in the Maintenance Dept. of the Waupaca Foundry for over twenty years. He was a member of the Nelsonville Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He had been the caretaker of the Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery for many years. He enjoyed a number of things including talking with people and sharing stories, tinkering in his garage and the challenges of trying to fix things, and hunting. He was a very generous man, and had been very faithful in visiting his wife every day in her time in the nursing home. He especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Nelsonville Lutheran Church in Nelsonville, with Rev. Jonathan Sachs, officiating. Interment will be in the Nelsonville Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst, and at the church on Sunday from 1:00 until the time of the service. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
