Harland W. Newby's Obituary
Harland W. Newby was called home to be with the Lord on June 9th, 2023 at Whispering Pines. Harland was born June 4th, 1932. Son of the late Ward W. and Bertha (Wenzel) Newby. He married Janice (Teske) on May 26th, 1951 at her mother’s home in Almond, Wisconsin. Their bond was strong, together they made an inseparable pair for 68 years working side by side raising seven children. His love and support as a husband, father and grandfather was evident in everything he did.
Harland was a heavy equipment operator for Pagel Construction Company from 1951-1994 and was a proud member of Operating Engineers of Local 139 for 56 years. Harland spent many years wintering in Florida, where he spent 23 years playing softball up to the age of 83. Harland lived every day for his family and friends. Spending many hours on the bleachers cheering on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their many activities. He was truly their biggest fan. Now Harland and Janice will once again share the best seats in the house. During the summer he also enjoyed fishing Lake Michigan on his boat named the Seven C’s.
Harland is survived by his children Carmen (Art) Pagel, Christine (Robert) Barden, Colin (Cindy) Newby, Cheryl Smith, Cynthia (Bill) Brandl, and Craig (Brenda) Newby. He is further survived by his
daughter-in-law Jody Newby.
He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren. Trina (James) Warzynski, Todd (Jennipher) Pagel, Tarrah Pagel, Jeffry (Jenny) Barden, Tiffany (Mike) Losinski, Kimberly ( Matt) Jacowski, Curtis Newby, Corey (Kimberly) Newby, Chad (Morgan) Newby, Courtney (Corey) Duchow, Justin Drmolka, Michael (Emily Switz) Drmolka, Lindsay (Jeremy) Smith, Wesley (Heather) Schulke, Mackenzie Brandl, Carter Newby and Cami Newby.
He will be sadly missed by his 27 great-grandchildren, Dylan (Frankie), Garret, Cole, Breeley Warzynski, JennaMarie Pagel, Meghan Varga, Chase & Wyatt Barden, Izabelle and Parker Losinski, Gracelyn Breitenstein, Ty & Remmy Jacowski, Riley Washington, Levi & Duke Newby, Connor (Macey Check), Jillian & Aaliyah Newby, Cambria Duchow, Mayce, Kaylee, & Colton Drmolka, Ella & Claire Smith and Autumn & Kinley Schulke.
He is also survived by his brother-in-law Wayne Teske.
Besides Harland’s parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, his son Carl Newby, his brother Howard (Lyndred) Newby, his sisters Joyce (Kenneth) Parmenter, June (Betty) (Winston) Judd, Georgia (Bill) Cook. One sister-in-law Kay Teske, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Caryle & Esther Teske, Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law Beatrice & Earl Benjamin and Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Richard (LaRayne) Teske.
A funeral service will be held on Friday June 16, 2023 at 11 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Almond, WI. Pastor Dave Ficken will officiate with burial to follow at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday June 15, 2023 from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Almond, WI and again on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. at the church. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
While we have moments of sadness, we feel an overwhelming sense of calmness and peace, knowing our mom and dad are together again. The family would like to thank the Whispering Pines staff & Heartland Hospice Care for their care and compassion for Harland.
