Harvey Manteufel's Obituary
Harvey E. Manteufel, age 84, of Waupaca, WI, passed away peacefully at his home in Waupaca on Monday, March 20th, 2006. Harvey was the second son born to Louis W. and Cora M.(Schuenemann) Manteufel in Milwaukee, WI on March 13, 1922. Harvey was baptized August 22, 1922 at Salem Evangelical Church. Harvey grew up in the Milwaukee area. He graduated from Boys Trade and Technical School after completing the Artisans Course on January 31, 1941. Harvey worked as a press operator at International Harvestor Company before being inducted into the Army on October 23, 1942. He served his country proudly as a member of B Battery 490th Armored Division, starting as a Private then advancing to PFC and then Corporal. His specialty was as a survey and instrument man. While serving 15 months in the European Theater of Operations, Harvey participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. While there he received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, two overseas service bars, one service stripe, a good conduct medal and a bronze star medal. He was honorable discharged January 7, 1946. After discharge Harvey went to work at his uncle's candy business, Klincherts Candies, as a candymaker for about four years. In 1950 he went to work at Dichton and Marsch as a plastic molder. He worked there for many years eventually working his way up to a supervisory position when he retired. After retirement in 1985 he moved to the Waupaca Area where he resided until his passing. Harvey was preceded in death by his father, Louis, mother, Cora, older brother, Raymond, and sister-in-law, Amber. Harvey is survived by nephew, Wayne R. Manteufel of Wisconsin Rapids; nephew, Neil L. (Leslie Bonnell) Manteuful of Waupaca; neice, Diane A. Ayres of Waupaca; and nephew, Merle H. (Sandi) Manteufel of Ogdensburg, as well as other relatives and friends in the Waupaca and Milwaukee areas. He is also survived by his good friend, Tom Rocky Winnesheimer. Harvey will be greatly missed. Those who knew Harvey will remember him as a quiet, humble and mild mannered man. It is comforting to know that while he has peacefully completed one journey he has already started yet another. God Bless You Harvey. Graveside Services will be on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:15 PM at Crystal Lake Cemetery in the Town of Dayton. Pastor Jeffrey Fletcher officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca.
