Hattie Mary Jome age 94 of Appleton, formerly of Waupaca, passed away on March 4, 2012. Hattie was born April 2, 1917 in Nasewaupee Township, Door County. She grew up in Door County and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1 Read Obituary

I always liked Mrs. Jome. She was a very classy lady.
Mrs. Jome was my third grade teacher and is the reason that I can spell as well as I do today. She was my personal spelling coach from 3rd-8th grade and helped me win some school spelling titles. I can remember her sitting in her kitchen reading me words and I would spell them back to her. Sometimes I would bargain with her that if I spelled a whole list right right, we could go down in the basement and play a game. I believe it was a pool table, but that was 30 years ago now. She was a great person and I still think of her today as being a big influence in my life. It just so happens that I'm an English teacher so she definitely played a role in that too. My condolences to her family.

Our heart felt condolences are extended to the families of Mary Barker, Barbara Rowland and Robert Jome on the loss of their Mother. I hold dear many fond memories of Auntie Hattie. In particular when as a little girl I would stay a week each summer at her house and become a part of her family taking swimming lessons, playing dress-up and visiting her elementary classrooms. She was a loving, gracious woman who will always be remembered and greatly missed.
