Hazel M. Madson's Obituary
Hazel M. Madson, age 90, of Waupaca, formerly of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. Hazel was born in the Town of Saxeville, Waushara County on September 26, 1921, the daughter of the late Nels (Peter) and Florence (Halsey) Nelson. Hazel married La Verne (Jack) Madson on October 12, 1940 in Waupaca and he preceded her in death after 70 years of marriage on January 31, 2011. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. Hazel and her husband were lifelong dairy farmers near Amherst. She enjoyed playing cards, games, puzzles, working with her flowers and mowing grass. Hazel is survived by her children: Nancy Handrich, Amherst; Karen Borchert, Waupaca; David (Kristy) Madson, Scandinavia; Donald Madson, Scandinavia and Richard (Robin) Madson, Amherst. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great- grandchildren along with a brother-in-law: Julian Madson, Waupaca and sisters-in-law: Verna Schiek, Oconomowoc, WI and Donna Petersen, Peru, IL and several nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson: Scott Borchert, a son-in-law: Randy Borchert, five brothers and three sisters. The Funeral Service will be on Friday, November 25 at 11 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst with Reverend John Schmidt, officiating. Visitation will be on Friday morning from 9:30 AM until the time of service at the church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Amherst. Jungers-Holly Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
