Age 89 – died on September 8, 2011 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. Helen was born on July 17, 1922 in Brier Hill, PA, a daughter of the late Andrew and Rosalie (Kordecka) Jagoda. At the age of four she went to live with an aunt and uncle, Mary and John Boback in LaCrosse, IN. they moved to Tefft, IN where they operated a general merchandise store. She graduated from nurse’s training at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond, IN, and worked as a Registered Nurse at Holy Name Hospital in LaPorte, IN. She served in WW II as an Army nurse at Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, KY, and also in the Philippines and Japan. She married Rudolph B. Dolezal on September 14, 1946 in Rensselaer, IN. Helen was the Director of Nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, WI for 15 years. Helen and Rudy retired to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI in 1995. Rudy preceded her in death on October 8, 1997.
Helen is survived by her children; Sister Esther Dolezal of Kenya, Africa, Rev. Jo Ann (Dr. Larry) Barker of Sewanee, TN, Barb (Bernard) Vodak of Richland Center, WI, Margie (Chris) Linzmeier of Auburndale, WI, Mike (Shelly) Dolezal of Elroy, WI, Jane (Sion) Shabtaie of Madison, WI, Frank Dolezal of Broken Arrow, OK, Annette (Steve) Altschwager of Fort Collins, CO, and Dorothy (Brian) Steinmetz of Albany, WI. She is further survived by 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and her brother; Andy (Alberta) Jagoda of Goleta, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph, her parents, brothers; Stanley, Joe, and John, and sisters; Mary, Ann, and Frances.
A funeral mass will be held at the Wisconsin Veterans Home – Main Chapel in King, WI on Monday, September 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with Father Paul Vanden Hogen, Celebrant. Interment will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI. A visitation will be held at the Main Chapel on Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:45 AM. A Rosary service will be held on Monday morning at 10:45 AM at the Main Chapel. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
