Henry P. Sopa's Obituary
Henry P. Sopa - age 96 - of Stevens Point, WI passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI. He was born on July 14, 1918 in the Township of Lanark, Portage County, WI, the son of Joseph and Johanna (Konkol) Sopa. He married Laura Kropidlowski on November 30, 1940 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church - Fancher and she preceded him in death on January 11, 2008.
Henry is survived by his daughters: Diane Swanke of Boise, ID, and Shirley Caldwell of Tucson, AZ, grandchildren: Gerry, David, and John Swanke, and Susan and Cathy Caldwell, great grandchildren: Lindsey, Storm, Sarah, Bethany, Paul-Thomas, Grace, Noah, Anna, Paul, and Magdalene, and sisters: Jeanette Patoka of Amherst, and Emily Raschka and Lucille Baldewicz, both of West Allis. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Henry was also preceded in death by his sisters: Evelyn Rusch and Chesterine Dombrowski, and brothers: Barney, Zig, Edwin, and Leonard Sopa.
Henry was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church - Fancher. He had been active with the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man. He had been employed as a welder with the Allis-Chalmers Co. in Milwaukee for many years. He was a diehard fisherman and an avid Packers fan, and loved spending time at his beloved Spring Haven.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church - Fancher, with Father Jude Dioka, officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. The Jungers - Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
