Howard R. Borgen's Obituary
Howard R. Borgen, age 76, of Amherst, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Bethany Home in Waupaca. Howard was born on February 24, 1933 in Amherst, the son of the late Turben and Alma (Anderson) Borgen. Howard was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst. Following his high school education in Amherst he worked as a technician for A O Smith in Milwaukee before serving his country during the Korean conflict in the Army as a heavy weapons infantryman, earning the rank of Corporal and squad leader in the 4th infantry. He was apprenticed in and later employed as a machinist for a company in Milwaukee, working there for the duration of his career. He retired and moved back to his hometown, enjoying life on the family farm for the remainder of his life. Howard was a sports enthusiast. If he was not participating, he was the well informed fan, but his true love was fishing. He was a life long fisherman of the lakes and rivers of this area and of Canada. Howard was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Howard is survived by his sister; Ethel (Tony) Paap of Oakland, CA, four brothers Keith (Edna) Borgen of Amherst, Lyal (Suzanne) Borgen of Scandinavia, Richard (Beverly) Borgen of Amherst and George Borgen of Amherst, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gerald Borgen and a sister Ruth (Borgen) Trader. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 11 AM at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dwight Anderson, officiating. Internment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in the Town of Amherst. A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service at the church. A time of fellowship will follow the burial in the Peace Lutheran fellowship hall.
