James H. Gaffey Sr's Obituary
James H. Gaffey, Sr, age 86, of Almond, WI passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King where he was a resident for the past 2 years. Jim was born in Greene Township (Holbrook), Iowa on November 29, 1930, the son of the late Francis John and Wilhelmina Frances (Donohoe) Gaffey. He graduated from Parnell High School in Parnell, IA. He served in the US Army during the Korean War training as a tank driver. On February 9, 1959 Jim married Bridget (Bridie) Whelan, a young girl from Graiguenamanagh, County Kilkenny, Ireland. They were married at St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City, Iowa and later moved to Almond, WI where Jim began farming. Bridget preceded Jim in death on January 18, 1984. He enjoyed watching the Packers, singing, braiding rope and just loved to laugh. Jim is survived by his children: Bernadette (Craig) Allen, Texas and James (Tina) Gaffey Jr., MN; 4 grandchildren: Christine (Jeff) Schmidt; Sean Allen; Michaela & Ella Gaffey; his brother: Merlyn Gaffey, Nebraska; his sister: Jeanne Malichky, Iowa and his nieces & nephews: Karen, Timothy, Bill, Cindy, Ron, Melanie & Michelle. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bridget, a daughter, Maureen Ann, a brother, Thomas, a sister, Carmelita, his maternal grandparents, James & Susan (Gray) Gaffey and his paternal grandparents, T.F. & Julia (Griffin) Donohoe. The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 25 at 11 AM at the Hardell-Holly Funeral Home in Almond. Burial with full military rites will follow at Guardian Angels Cemetery, Town of Almond. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials greatly appreciated to the Guardian Angels Cemetery Fund. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home for the wonderful care given to their father & grandfather.
