James F. Migas' Obituary
James F. Migas, age 68, passed away surrounded by family at Agrace Hospice Center, in Madison, WI on June 22, 2014. Jim was born on June 2, 1946 in Stevens Point,WI. He was a son of the late Joseph Migas and Theresa (Izral) Migas. Jim graduated from Pacelli High School and attended Notre Dame University. He was a semester from graduating from Notre Dame when his life long struggle with schizophrenia began. Despite the heroic efforts of his parents to seek every available option to assist their son with his disease, Jim was never able to realize his full potential due to his illness. As Jim himself noted, his mental illness "robbed him of his mind."
In his earlier years, Jim enjoyed baking and cooking, and found employment in various restaurants engaged in these activities. He also enjoyed baseball, playing cards and being outdoors.
Survivors include: brothers Joseph (Sara) of Mill Creek, WA; John (Judy) of Pawley's Island, SC; Anthony of Vancouver, WA and sisters Ann Rudd of Napa,CA; Mary Migas of Madison,WI; Rosalie (Ray Fonck) Migas of Madison,WI; Rose Marie (Wade) Mayer of Bartlett, IL and many nephews and nieces. Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; his long time companion, Darlene Meadows; oldest sister Therese Slicker and her husband, Kenneth; sister-in-law Kathy Migas, and brother-in-law Dr. Van Rudd.
Funeral services will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst on Monday June 30, 2014 at 1 PM with Father Robert Pedretti, officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. James Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice Center for the care and support they provided to Jim in his last months.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions in his name be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph (Development Office PO Box 305 Stevens Point, WI 54484), Agrace Hospice Care (5395 E. Cheryl Parkway Madison, WI 53711) or SNAP (Survivor Network of those Abused by Priests). Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst is assisting the family with arrangements.
