Jan has been a presence in the lives of so many here in our community, including mine at an early age. Each Sunday morning we would be off to Mass, separating at the entrance where my mother, Joan Imre, would climb up to the choir loft. There would be Jan awaiting her, in the soprano section. Much like our Community Chorus, it was a time for friendship building while using their lovely voices to give praise. Many times I sat transfixed at how single voices could combine to create such utter beauty, resonance and piety.
I was so pleased to be one of the check-in ladies at Community Chorus, serving alongside Mary, Selma and Jan. Being the youngest, I minded my elders. Jan always greeted me with a warm smile, ready to chat as we caught up every week. I visited her and Ken’s lovely home, petted Jake or tried to and always got an invitation to stop by again.
Sadly, my mother has lost her singing voice as well as her memory. She would have deeply mourned Jan’s passing, as do I. She will always be remembered for her warmth, joy and celebration of life, accepting the sorrows and the glories.
