Jeffery A. Pomerenke's Obituary
Jeffery Allen Pomerenke, age 66, of Ogdensburg, WI, had been fighting liver cancer for the past year but sadly lost the fight and passed away in his home, surrounded by family on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
He was born on July 22, 1956, at Camp Hanford (Kennewick) in Washington State, son of Donavin and LaVerne (Ogren) Pomerenke. Jeff grew up in the Ogdensburg area and attended school in the Iola-Scandinavia school systems. He graduated from I-S High School in 1974. Jeff spent two tours of duty in the U.S. Naval Service. He spent much of his time in Adak, Alaska but also traveled the world over on the U.S.S. Sierra and U.S.S. La Salle. Between Navy stints, he worked at Sturms in Manawa, WI and later the Waupaca Foundry, where he returned to work after retiring from the Navy. Jeff was employed at the Waupaca Foundry for 28 years and only retired because of his cancer, otherwise he would still be there as he truly enjoyed his foundry family. He was an avid fisherman, who loved the water and especially loved kayaking. Jeff made many long trips to Quetico Provincial Park in Canada to fish and enjoy the outdoors there. He also loved to play darts and throw horseshoes, and belonged to leagues for both sports up until the time he became too ill to participate.
Jeff is survived by his father Donavin Pomerenke of Ogdensburg, WI; two sisters Beth (Dan) Friel and Barb (Bruce) Cady all of Ogdensburg, WI; two nieces Marie (Tony) Yager and Naomi (Joseph) Beahm; two nephews Brett Cady and Joseph Braatz; and several aunts, uncles, great nieces and nephews, cousins and he leaves behind many good friends, especially Kevin and Jackie Moore. He will be missed by many and always remembered as “Pomer”.
Jeff was preceded in death by his wife Nancy R. (Krause) Pomerenke; mother LaVerne (Ogren) Pomerenke; maternal grandparents Clarence and Leila (Bledsoe) Ogren and paternal grandparents Henry “Heine” and Verna (Pike) Pomerenke.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will start at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at First Lutheran Church in Ogdensburg, WI and will be followed by full military honors and a meal will be provided following the military honors at the church.
