Jerome Michael Lyons' Obituary
Jerome M. Lyons, age 80, formerly of King, Horicon, and Sun Prairie returned to his Heavenly Father on February 12, 2018. Jerry was born September 23, 1937 in Clyman, Wisconsin, the fifth child of James and Rose (Caughlin) Lyons. He graduated from Horicon High School in 1955.
Jerry was strong in his faith and his enormous heart swelled with pride when he spoke of his family, his Irish heritage, or his service in the Navy aboard the USS Leyte (aircraft carrier) from June 1955 until September 1958.
He married Sandra (Schlesinger) (Doeden) in 1969, and they happily raised 2 sons and a daughter in Sun Prairie, where he worked as a bartender at Herreman’s Supper Club and a security guard at General Casualty.
His family is immensely grateful for the kindness and companionship shared with Jerry by the members and staff (especially Sister Martha) of the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, which he called home since November 2003. His job, delivering the mail, was a source of much enjoyment for more than 14 years.
Jerry is survived by his children, Robert Doeden, Michael (Jennifer) Doeden, and Colleen (Eric) Gunderson; his sisters, Therese Punzel of Fort Atkinson, Rose Witczak of Athelstane, and Helen Roy of Berlin, NH; his sister-in-law, Carrie Lyons of Horicon; his grandchildren and great-grandchild, Katelin, Caraline, Shyanne, and Kayleigh; as well as adored nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his quick wit and warm smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Wesley Parpart; his wife, Sandy; and his siblings, Julia, Patrick, and Clifford.
