John F. Dixon's Obituary
John Farnsworth Dixon age 69 years, died February 18, 2010 at Meriter Hospital, Madison, WI. His death was very sudden and unexpected. John was born to John J. and Louise F. Dixon on August 14, 1940 in Janesville, WI. His family moved to Rockford, IL where he attended local schools, and graduated from West Rockford High School in 1958. He attended Princeton University and The University of Wisconsin, Madison. John had a career as a research chemist. For the majority of his career John worked at a University of Wisconsin research laboratory with Dr. Lowell Hakin. He and Dr. Hakin co-authored and published approximately thirty chemistry research papers. The remaining years of his research were spent with PPD of Madison, WI. John worked with enthusiasm, dedication and loyalty throughout his career. In recent years he maintained a home in Belleville, WI. Prior to his career he worked with his father in the family radio business, radio station WAPL AM/FM Appleton , WI. John is survived by his sister - Sara D. Woodford, Waupaca, her husband - D. Terry Woodford, Waupaca, niece - Elizabeth Louise Woodford, Appleton, nephews - Robert John (Emmie) Woodford, Appleton, Thomas Andrew (Elizabeth) Woodford, Madison, grand nieces - Catherine and Madeline Woodford of Appleton, Caroline of Madison, grand nephews - Jake and Alex Woodford of Appleton and Joe Woodford of Madison. All are profoundly saddened by his passing. He was a loving man of quiet dedication and intellectual pursuits. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Edwards Dixon. A private family memorial service will be held at a future date at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Appleton, WI. Memorial funds are established in his name for YMCA Camp Manitowish and Wisconsin Public Television.
