Judy, I posted this on Legacy.com but thought I would send it to you through this site as well. Love, Lee
I will never forget the first time I met Jack Kusch. I went to his home at Pine Lake, walked up to him with an outstretched hand……he stopped me and said, “that isn’t how we greet up here!” He reached out and gave me a huge hug. That was Jack….warm, welcoming and genuine. He was also larger than life. I had many great weekends over the past few years talking with him, Judy and Katie. He had so many great stories to tell and so on the weekends that I would visit I would try to stretch them out as much as possible, leaving as late as I could on Sundays to get more time with them. I am so glad that I did! He also was so welcoming and kind to my daughter. Being with them at Pine Lake was always a vacation, a retreat and respite from work. He built this retreat for Judy and himself, but also for his family and friends. I was amazed at how relied upon and well regarded he was in his community. He truly helped anyone he could. He would always comment on the shoes that I would wear to the lake and tell me, “those are too nice for up here!” Usually I was driving straight from work on Friday’s so I hadn’t had a chance to change. The other day at his funeral I wore those shoes again…I am sure he was thinking that they were too nice, but I wore them one more time for you Jack! You don’t realize how special each moment is until they are gone. I am glad that I told him how special those moments were while he was still with us. You are missed Jack!
