John Edward Lane's Obituary
John Edward Lane, 75, Waupaca, passed away January 21, 2026 at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 17, 1950 in Oconto, the son of the late James and Genevieve (Neta) Lane. John graduated from Oconto High School in 1969. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Art at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. John was the beloved husband of Barbara Ann Haen (or Barbie as he liked to call her) for 27 years. Those years included much travel especially after retirement. Travel included ski trips out west, touring the southwest and eastern US and Alaska, bicycling in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and Vietnam/Cambodia, and a month-long Ireland/Scotland trip for a 25th wedding celebration.
John owned his own business and was known by his clients as painter and wallpaper installer extraordinaire. He took great pride in every job he did whether large or small, and would not finish until every detail was just so. This extended to his home that he completely remodeled. He loved being outside working in the yard to make everything perfect.
John loved people and his kindness extended to many. He cherished his friends, and always had a story to tell. He was proud to call Waupaca his home.
John is survived by his wife Barb, his siblings Carol Azeez, Tom (Dawn), Steve (Mary), Jeff (Gail), Patty (Pete) Gabrielson, Nancy Copeland and Susan Konsuvo; and siblings-in-law Mary (Hank) Kollross, John (Janice) Haen, Bernie (Pat) Haen, Peter (Terri) Haen, Monica Haen, Joe Haen, Ann (Jeff) Potts and Matt (Lisa) Haen; many dear nieces and nephews, including his Godchildren Kym Belongia, Charles Copeland, and Emily Haen; and great nieces and great nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law Bernard and Angie Haen, brother-in-law Steven Konsuvo, and nephew Ryan Gronnert.
Thank you to Drs. Johnstone, Mooney, Khanna and Awan and the staff at Froedtert West Bend and Milwaukee, especially the nurses who cared for him during his last hospitalization stay in Milwaukee. Thank you to the ER staff at Theda Care in Waupaca. We don’t know what we would have done without you. Special thanks and gratitude to the nursing staff in the Theda Care Waupaca Infusion Department. You brought joy to John during his many visits. Thank you, Kym, for your many visits to cook for us, to join us on one of many drives to Froedtert, and to help in any way. You were like a daughter to John.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Waupaca, with visitation at 10 am until time of service. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
