John R. Nielsen's Obituary
John R. Nielsen passed away on October 6, 2023 after a brave battle with acute myeloid leukemia. John was born on January 14, 1954 in Racine, WI the son of John H. Nielsen and Jeanne (Kouski) Nielsen. He was a 1972 graduate of William Horlick H.S. John married Susan Moffitt on June 26, 1977 in Racine, WI. He was an accomplished drummer who had opportunities to play professionally but chose to remain in Racine to help his father’s business. He excelled in auto mechanics which led to him operating his own business for 30 years, Statewide Auto Service. John loved his family. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh too. We will miss that distinctive chuckle. He was a diehard Green Bay Packers fan through thick and thin. Outdoors, he liked golfing, sailing, camping, fishing, and maintaining a lush green grass yard. He loved his buddies that he grew up with in Racine… a very special group of friends.
John is survived by his wife Susan; son David (Jill); his mother Jeanne (Donald); his sister Julie (Tim) and brothers-in-law Tim (Elaine), Joel (Jennifer) and Andy (Brynna) as well as grandchildren Natalie and Matthew and nieces Krystle (Jason), Ashley (Tim), Courtney (Jim), Chloe (Jack) and Meghan. John was preceded in death by his father and 4 grandparents.
A memorial service will be held on Monday October 16, 2023 at 11 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI. The service will be live streamed at clickhere. Reverend Andy Behrendt will officiate. A memorial gathering will be held at the church on Monday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service at 11 A.M. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the research against cancer, or a charity of your choice to honor John.
