John W. Spera
Waupaca, WI Age 92 – died on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Bethany Home in Waupaca, WI. He was born on July 3, 1915 in New Canaan, CT, a son of John and Catherine (Hannigan) Spera. He married Shirley Mullen on October 28, 1944 in North Carolina.
John is survived by his wife; Shirley, a daughter; Kathy (Gene) Austin of Waupaca, four sons; Frank (Dee) Spera of Stuart, FL, John Spera of Milton, DE, Stephen Spera of Madison, and Matthew (Pauline) Spera of LeCentre, MN, grandchildren; Jennifer (Owen) Borum, Jeffery (Victoria) Spera, Denise (Scott) Nadboy, Doreen (Aaron) Jerabek, John (Rachel) Lockwood, Matthew (Darrah) Spera, Emily (Steve) Ernest, Mieka (Jim) Sheridan, Ron (Barbara) Williamson, and Tim (Kathy) Williamson, and great grandchildren; Jackson Borum, Kelly and Ian Spera, Haiden Nadboy, Sam and Marina Jerabek, Colin Lockwood, Owen Spera, Taylor Ernest, Erika Sheridan and John (Kristin) Sheridan, Ryan, Morgan, Ethan, and Kellan Williamson, and Tyler Williamson. He is also survived by step-grandchildren; Mike (Mary) Austin, Lori Peterson, Linda (Ron) White, and Roberta Austin, and step-great grandchildren; Desiray and Steffani Austin, Sarah and Whitney Peterson, Dylan Shifflett, Ryan Austin, Samantha Lubecke, and Nathan Merk. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; James, Robert, and Richard, and a sister; Katherine.
John had been employed with the Western Electric Company in Fort Lauderdale, FL for 36 years, retiring as a supervisor. He had served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He had been the Commodore of the Lauderdale Isles Yacht Club. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Elk’s Club. He had enjoyed golfing for many years. John loved being with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, and most of the time his travels took him to be with his family.
A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Home Chapel in Waupaca, WI on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Interment and Military Honors will take place at the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in King, WI at a later date. Friends may call at the Bethany Home Chapel on Saturday from noon until 1:00 PM. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
