Joseph F. Nicholas' Obituary
Joseph Francis Nicholas, age 68, of Poy Sippi, WI, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 at his residence. Joseph was born in Portland, Maine on December 4, 1940, the son of the late Leo J. and Rose E. (Ryan) Nicholas. Joe served in the US Navy. On April 28, 1976, he married Amy L. Griswold in Chicago, IL and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2009. Joe was a Chairperson of the Poy Sippi Community Betterment Association. He loved trout fishing, ice fishing, hunting, golfing and bowling. He especially loved playing cards with his buddies and driving his grandson, RJ around on his John Deere tractor. He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poy Sippi. Joe is survived by his children: Jody (Robert) Hildebrandt, Oshkosh; Joseph (Heather) Nicholas, Waupun; Anna (Randy) Monroe, Neenah; Roberta Nicholas, Berlin; Mary Nicholas, Tucson, AZ; Jennifer Nicholas, San Diego, CA; his grandchildren: Robert J. Hildebrandt and Stephanie Nicholas; great-grandson: Trent. Also surviving are his brothers: Peter (Vicky) Nicholas, Berlin; Art (Dinah) Nicholas, New York; Joseph (Lynn) Buck, Wisconsin Dells and his sisters: Margaret Dempsey, Chicago; Terry (Fitz) Fitzgibbons, Santa Barbara, CA and Elizabeth Beleu, California. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Amy. Memorial Mass will be on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 AM at St. Marks Catholic Church, Redgranite with Father Joseph Mattern & Karen Nesbit, presiding. Military graveside services will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Berlin, WI. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 9 AM until the time of mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Joseph's name. Holly Funeral Home in Poy Sippi is assisting the family with arrangements.
