Josephine (Jo) Carol Luick (Stoppa)

Formerly of Madison, Wisconsin Age 89 passed away on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at then Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, WI. She was born February 25, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Scbiliz) Stoppa. On June 15, 1945 Josephine married Leon Luick at Zion Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, WI. Her early married years were spent in Marathon City, Medford, Neillsville and Menominee before moving to Madison in 1956. Jo grew up on a farm outside Stephenson, Michigan and worked her entire life - outside the home dedicating herself to the care and support of her family and the community and her later years caring for her husband and family. As a young woman during World War II Jo worked with Allis Chalmers Corp. performing quality control on artillery shell casings, later, she worked for various grocery stores in the meat department and Ray-O-Vac Corp. in the production of experimental batteries. Jo and Leon were founding members of the Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin/Madison where they dedicated countless hours in support of efforts to preserve their social and cultural heritage. Jo is survived by: Sons: Leon Butch (Dorie) Luick II of Madison, WI and Ray (Jeanne) Luick of Lodi, WI; Five Grandchildren, Three Great-Grandchildren; Sister-in-law: Leonora Stoppa of Appleton, WI. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catherine Stoppa; Husband Leon Luick; Daughter; Jo-Ellen (Kohn) Brothers, John and Stanley Stoppa, Sisters Helen Stoppa and Agnes Duffrin: Nephews Frederick and (William) Billy Duffrin: Brothers-in-law Myron Luick, Henry Duffrin and Gerald Jende. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11 AM at the Wisconsin Veterans Home-Main Chapel. Visitation will be on Thursday morning from 10 AM until the time of services at the chapel. Memorials to the Polish Heritage Club of Wisconsin/Madison in support of their scholarship fund. Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca is assisting the family with arrangements.
