Kenneth Earl Boman's Obituary
Kenneth "Ken" Earl Boman, age 81, of Appleton, passed away on Wednesday , September 2, 2015, at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, very peacefully with his loving family at his side, shortly following a stroke. He was born June 5, 1934, at home, in the Town of Maine, Outagamie county, Wisconsin, son of the late Earl Leonard Boman and Lucille Marie (Dohling) Boman. Ken (or "Kenny") graduated from Seymour High School in 1951 at age 16. He served his country in the US Army, ASA from 1952-1955, and stationed in Germany for two of those years. He was a fireman for seven years in Appleton, and worked briefly for Skogg in Green Bay as an insurance agent as well as a realtor for same company. He owned his own business, a tavern and restaurant called "Boman's Place" in Black Creek from 1973-1988, and was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ (Black Creek). He was a rural mail carrier and served on the Outagamie County Board from 1981-1996. He became the Outagamie County Emergency Management Coordinator in 1996-2000. Upon retirement from that position, he worked as the Outagamie County Internal Mail Carrier until 2011, when he retired at age 76.
Ken married Sherri McNamara (1998) and together they travelled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean basin, including the Panama Canal, Mayan Ruins in Mexico, and northern portions of South America. They owned and enjoyed house boating on the Mississippi River for many years. Ken was a voracious reader with an expansive interest in ecology, natural history, philosophy, anthropology, religion, politics, and all things in the world around us. He was an avid hunter, fly fisherman, ballroom and polka dancer, and loved Willie Nelson. He was a true Renaissance man.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Gae (Karl) Leonard of Flagstaff, Arizona; four children of mother Janice (Drephal) Boman: Robin (Robert) Griesser of De Pere, Mike Boman of Madison, Brian (Jamie Pettit) Boman of Stoughton, Tom (Gwen) Bomann of Appleton; three stepchildren of mother Sherri McNamara: Meggin (Steve) McNamara Horn of Fond du Lac, Jon (T. Frick) McNamara of Seattle, WA, Ryan McNamara of Waupaca; five grandchildren Blake, Forrest and Evelyn Bomann, Eva and Kaden Horn; niece Penny Johnson of Oshkosh, Kara Leonard of Flagstaff, AZ and nephew Dean (Bridget) Johnson of Algoma.
A private family funeral service will be held. Entombment at the King Veteran’s Home Cemetery, with full military honors will be held on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Online condolences at www.hollyfuneralhome.com .
