L. Gardner Harvey's Obituary
L. Gardner Harvey “Gardy”, age 86, of King, Wisconsin, formerly of Amherst, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Gardy was born in Amherst, Wisconsin on February 7, 1923. He was the son of the late Vernon and Genevieve Harvey. Gardy served in the United States Army in WWII. On October 26, 1946 he married Ruby Peterson in Amherst. Gardy graduated from UW Madison as a pharmacist. He owned a pharmacy in the Amherst area for several years; he was then employed by the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King as a pharmacist from where he retired in 1985. Gardy was a Boy Scout leader in his younger years and a loyal member of the Tomorrow River Lions Club. Gardy was a member of the Amherst United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf with Ruby and their friends. Gardy was an avid sports fan and attended as many local High School games as he could. He was a long-time season ticket holder of the Green Bay Packers and a very devoted Packer and Badger fan. Gardy is survived by three children: Thomas Harvey, Greenfield, WI; Deborah (David) DeBruin, Tucson, AZ; Timothy (Kathy) Harvey, Amherst, WI. Grandchildren: Kim DeBruin; Rick DeBruin, MO; Megan Harvey, Green Bay, WI; Andrew Harvey, St. Anne, IL. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren. Gardy was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; his infant daughter Laurie Jean Harvey; sister, Mildred; brother Burton. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 12, 2010 at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst at 5 P.M. Chaplain Rich Engle will officiate. A gathering will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 3:30 until 5 P.M. Burial will be in the spring.
