Laura is survived by her son, Ted Habermann of Cane Ridge, TN, sister-in-law; Donna DeFrates of Brentwood, CA, niece; Diana (Tim) Rome of Antioch, CA, and nephew; Dave DeFrates of Hayward, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, sister; Carrie Hadden, and two brothers; Paul DeFrates and Manuel DeFrates.
Laura had been employed as a bookkeeper for the Famous Footwear Co. in Madison, WI for many years. After retiring to Waupaca, WI she had been a part-time office worker for the Faulks Bros/Greensmix Co. of Waupaca. Laura and her husband had also owned and operated the former Siesta Motel in Waupaca during the 1950’s. Laura was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and had done volunteer work at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI. She had also been an active member of the Red Hat Society. Laura also enjoyed line dancing and fitness activities.
A funeral service will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca, WI on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 10:30 AM, with the Reverend Fred Lueders, Bethany Home Chaplain, officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery in Waupaca. A visitation will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Wednesday evening from 3:00 – 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the American Heart Association – Northeast Wisconsin Chapter at 2149 Velp Ave., Green Bay, WI 53718 in memory of Laura A. Habermann. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
