Lee G. Bergman's Obituary
Lee G. Bergman, age 90, of Nelsonville, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 26, 1932 in Appleton, WI, son of Walter and Vivian (Skinner) Bergman. On June 27, 1953, he married the love of his life Dorothy “Linde” Lindquist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. They have been happily married for 69 years. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1953. Lee thoroughly enjoyed flying and working with planes, and later became a mechanic and a crew chief. He loved his time in the service, but especially experiencing one of the first flights over the North Pole in a B29 out of Fairbanks, Alaska. Lee spent 11 years as a fireman at the Appleton Fire Department, and another 10 years as an over the road truck driver for Gateway Trucking. Following this, he worked for the Portage County Parks Department as a park supervisor as well as a game warden until the time of his retirement. Among his favorite activities were fishing, playing cribbage, and watching the Packers every Sunday. Lee enjoyed feeding the birds regularly and was an avid bird watcher. He especially liked to watch and record the orioles that arrived every spring, and faithfully kept track of their migration. During their retirement years, Lee and Linde traveled to Florida and stayed there for six months until spring. Lee is survived by his wife Dorothy “Linde” Bergman of Nelsonville, WI; his children Debra (James) Stroik of Jensen Beach, FL, Scott (Diane) Bergman of Stevens Point, WI, Carole (Jim) Starr of Plover, WI, Jim (Donna) Bergman of Green Bay, WI and Beth (Mike) Kessenich of Verona, WI; twelve grandchildren David Stroik, Robert (Kristen) Stroik, Christen Phillips, Michael Bergman, Daniel (Danielle) Starr, Emily (Nolan) Langeland, Holly (Ryan) Simmons, Adam (Brianna) Bergman, Heather Sheer, Matthew Kessenich, John Kessenich and Anna Kessenich; and 15 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Julie Bergman; one granddaughter Sarah M. Bergman; one sister Mary Lublin; and one brother Marshall Bergman. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI followed by Full Military Honors to be performed. Pastor Steve Hulke will officiate. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, WI. Friends may call on Thursday, March 2nd from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church
