Lillian Kubisiak's Obituary
Lillian (Lil) M. Kubisiak, age 81, of Waupaca, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 surrounded by her family at her residence. Lil was born on Nov. 21, 1925 to the late Martin and Helen Michalek in Chicago, IL where she was raised. In 1945 she met the man who would love and encourage her to become the women cared for by so many. After a whirlwind courtship, she married Paul Kubisiak on June 10, 1945. They had love for each other that so many search for and so few find. Their relationship has been an inspiration and has served as a symbol of commitment for over 62 years. While Paul was in the Army, they lived in South Carolina before taking over the family farm in Amherst, where they raised 8 children and were foster parents to over 15 children. During this time, Lil also worked at the Tomorrow River Supper Club until 1968 when they decided to purchase the Oakwood in Waupaca. They passed the family farm down to their eldest son, Martin and moved to Waupaca in the spring of 1969. When the family decided to sell the Oakwood in 1989, it had grown from a small restaurant that seated 35 people to one of the largest banquet and catering facilities in the area with a capacity of over 500 people. Although Lil retired, she still remained active in many groups and organizations. She volunteered for over 2,000 hours at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King up until shortly before her death, and was a member and chaplain of the VFW Woman's Auxiliary #1037, American Legion Auxiliary #161, and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Waupaca. She was also a member of the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel (Fancher) Rosary Society for over 50 years and an active participant on her American Cancer Society Relay for Life team. She could always be counted on to be there if she was needed and was known for her contributions to many bake sales. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, playing cards, dominoes, and traveling. Lil was particularly fond of their many trips to Las Vegas; where she could often be found playing the nickel poker machines. Lil is survived by her husband: Paul Kubisiak of Waupaca, her children: Paulette McCarty of Waupaca, Martin (Barb) Kubisiak of Amherst, Christine Michaels; Helen (Tom) Halverson; Vicky Seeger; Elaine (Daryl) Wanner and Lisa (George) Dowhen all of Waupaca. 22 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and a sister: Loretta Walendzinski of Chicago, IL also survive along with numerous nieces, nephews and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Steven and a brother, John. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Community in Waupaca with Father Brian Belongia. Interment will be in St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 4 to 8 PM at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca with a VFW Auxiliary Service at 7:30 PM and a Prayer Service at 8 PM and on Sat. morning from 9 AM until the time of mass at the church. Lil was a remarkable woman and a blessing to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in our hearts for all eternity. Please join us as we say good-bye to our Mom, Grandma, Busia and friend. Memorials appreciated to Portage County Hospice, American Cancer Society and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
