Lois Hedbany's Obituary
Lois L. Hedbany, 77, town of Amherst, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in the Palliative Care Unit at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau, after a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. Services for Lois will be Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Nelsonville Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dwight Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home, Amherst and again on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to the time of services at the church. A memorial will be established. Lois was born on January 24, 1932 in Oshkosh to Harry and Effie (Ciperlie) Laabs. She attended the Pipe School , Waupaca High and Amherst High School. She later attained her GED. She married Lindy Allen on January 24, 1950 in Waupaca. They lived in Milwaukee and had three children. He was killed in a car accident in August of 1955. She married Joseph Hedbany on August 16, 1959. They lived in West Allis and returned to Amherst in 1960. They owned and operated Hedbany’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning and Mobile Home Park in Amherst Jct. Joe died on March 31, 1967. Lois continued to operate the business until 1993. She worked for Stratton’s Rest Home for about five years. She then ran a daycare in her home for many years, caring for many children who lovingly called her “Grandma“. She worked at the Tomorrow River Supper Club for over 20 years and Woodward Governor Company for nine years. After Woodward closed, Lois returned to school to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and did home health care. Before retiring, she worked 10 years for the Tomorrow River School system in the cafeteria gaining the respect and love of many of the staff and students. Lois was a member of the Nelsonville Evangelical Lutheran Church and was on the church council for many years. She also was treasurer of the church Women’s Group. She loved to bowl and was on many leagues and served as league secretary. She was involved in many volunteer organizations such as RSVP. Survivors include her three children, Linda (Ron) Konkol, Amherst, Arden (Mary) Allen, Amherst Jct., Holly (Daren) Lukes, Wrightstown, daughter-in-law Sandie Allen, Amherst, stepdaughter Evonna (Frederick) Baehner, Shawnee, KS, fifteen grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Podeszwa, Chad (Tracy) Konkol, Jake (Kate) Allen, Todd (Danette) Stiteley, Tim (Jamie) Stiteley, Jesse (Nicole) Konkol, Sam (Rachel) Allen, Stephanie Allen, Tyler, Cody and Macey Lukes, Gene (Luann) Hedbany, Doreen (Randy) Rzentkowski, Helene Madson and Justin (Bobbie) Race. Twelve great grandchildren, Tate and Callie Konkol, Weston and Cameron Allen, Marianne Jensen and Elliot Podeszwa, Beth, Nikki and Delaney Rzentkowski and Alex, Derek and Davis Hedbany, one great-great granddaughter Addison Allen, born on Lois’ birthday, January 24, 2009. Also surviving are one sister, Alice Yenter, Rosholt, one brother Gordon (Nina) Laabs, Beloit and many other relatives. She was predeceased by her two husbands, her parents, one son (Glen Allen) one step son and step daughter in law (Arnold and Marie Hedbany) and three brothers, Harold, John and Donald Laabs. Lois loved to bird watch, sew, quilt and cook. She was an avid Brewer and Packer fan. She loved to be involved in her grandchildren‘s activities. She often played cards with her grandchildren, letting them win. Special thank you to the UW-Cancer Center and the Hospice staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Aspirus Hospital, Wausau. A special thank you to Dr. Rezazadeh for his outstanding professional and compassionate personal care provided to our mother during the past eight years. Lois was a strong-willed woman who would not give up when the chips were down (and they were down often). She gave freely of herself and her belongings and never asked for anything in return. Mom, you are an inspiration to us all!
