LOUIS A. POMEROY
STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN
FORMERLY OF AMHERST, WISCONSIN Age 83 passed away after a courageous fight with cancer on Friday, December 2, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 24, 1922 in Amherst, WI; son of Harry B. and Myrtle D. (Anderson) Pomeroy. He married Jeanne Ketchum in 1946, they were divorced in 1948. On August 10, 1952, Louis married Priscilla Golden in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Amherst High School and attended Carroll College in Waukesha. Louis enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1942. He was an aviator certified to fly multi-engine land and sea planes. During WWII, he flew nearly every type of plane in the Navy. He was especially proud to have flown the Corsair and Hellcat fighter planes, and the Douglas Dauntless dive bomber. He flew both day and night missions with takeoffs and landings from aircraft carriers. For a short time after the war he flew hospital transports between Japan and San Francisco. He joined the International Bank of Amherst in April of 1948. Louis remained in the Naval Reserves until 1961. He was called up to serve during the Korean War. There he flew Banshee photo reconnaissance jets off the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge. In 1954 he resumed his employment with the bank, working full time through 1988 when he retired as president. He continued to be involved with the bank as chairman of the board. Louis received an award as being a 50 year member of the Independent Banker's Association of Wisconsin. He was proud to be the third of five generations of his family to work at The International Bank of Amherst. He truly enjoyed working with his customers and co-workers. Louis especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, Pat and his family. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, woodworking and, golfing. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI; Desert Hills Lutheran Church in Green Valley, AZ; Waupaca Masonic Lodge, Tripoli Shrine in Milwaukee, Tomorrow River Lions Club, Stevens Point Country Club, Selma Voight American Legion and Tomorrow River VFW. Louis was the past president of the Tomorrow River Lions Club and two-time past master of the Masonic Lodge. Louis is survived by:

Four Great-Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Jerrold Golden. A Funeral Service will be on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, WI. Revered Dwight Anderson will officiate. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, Dec. 8, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:30 PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Amherst following the services on Friday. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Tomorrow River Scholarship Foundation, Peace Lutheran Church in Amherst, and the Wisconsin Lions Foundation in the name of Louis A. Pomeroy.
