Mabel Ruth Johnson
Waupaca, WI
age 102 – passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010 at Crystal River Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Waupaca. She was born on June 24, 1907 in the Township of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, the daughter of Martin and Serena (Knutson) Johnson.
She graduated from Iola High School in 1925. She then moved to Evanston, IL where she worked as a hair dresser for many years. Upon retirement she moved back to the Waupaca area. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Lakes Church in Waupaca where she had been an active member until her health declined. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and playing bridge.
Mabel is survived by a brother; Norman Johnson of Scandinavia, eleven nieces and nephews; Arlie (Joan) Olson of Lake Mills, IA, Janet Mehus of Iola, Ardelle (Lowell) Shanklin of Iola, Violet Harrington of Waupaca, Richard (Phyllis) Olson of Madison, Robert (Anita) Olson of Waupaca, Judy Olson of East Lansing, MI, Nancy (Doug) Dupont of Oregon, Miles Johnson of Waupaca, Alene (Paul) Lantz of Baraboo, and Derva (Bill) Burke of Lansing, IA. She is further survived by many grand nieces, grand nephews, several cousins, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother; Jesse (Isla) Johnson, three sisters; Alice (Hanford) Olson, Hilma (Leonard) Olson, and Lucille (Erwin) Ackermann, sister-in-law; Martha Johnson, and a niece; Marilyn Johnson Hammond.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Shepherd of the Lakes Church in Waupaca, with Reverend David Martin, officiating. Interment will be in the Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery in Iola. A visitation will be held at the Shepherd of the Lakes Church on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in the name of Mabel Ruth Johnson. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
