Mae Johnson's Obituary
Mae D. Johnson, age 91, of Stevens Point, WI, formerly of Almond, WI, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008 in Stevens Point, WI. She was born in Almond on February 2, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Clara (Reichalt) Rath. Mae married Leland (L.P.) Johnson on September 25, 1937 in Almond. He preceded her in death on February 13, 2005. She was the Portage County Spelling Bee Champion in 1926 and 1927. Mae graduated from Almond High School and went to Stevens Point Normal School where she received her teaching degree. She taught at the Hetzel School in rural Almond. Mae was a long time member of the Almond United Methodist Church and the Almond Homemakers. She is survived by Sons: Robert (Karen) Johnson, Stevens Point, WI; James (Lynne) Johnson, Almond, WI. Grandchildren: Craig (Laurie) Johnson, Appleton, WI; Jennifer Johnson, Stevens Point, WI; Carol (Kevin) Fenske, Almond, WI; Charles (Naomi) Johnson, Verona, WI; Michael Johnson, Almond, WI; David Johnson, Plateville, WI; Great Grandchildren: Elise, Kyra, and Caleb Johnson, Appleton, WI Anya and Nolah Johnson, Verona, WI. She was preceded in death by her Parents; Husband, Leland; Daughter, Gloria; Granddaughter, Kristin, and a Brother, George. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 24, 2008 at Almond United Methodist Church in Almond, with Reverend David Leistra officiating. Interment will be next to her husband in the Almond Village Cemetery at a later date. A Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 10AM until the time of the service. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond assisted the family with arrangements.
