Mamie Sarnowski, age 102.75, passed away peacefully December 17, 2020 due to natural causes. She was born April 6, 1918 in Waupaca, Wisconsin to John and Emily (Hahn) Sarnowski.
Mamie loved to help. She helped many along way throughout her long life and was the one to make sure things got done. She spent over 50 years working in the medical field in Waupaca. Mamie was trained by Dr. Sam and Isabel Salan to help with nursing and clerical duties at the old Mirror Lake Hospital and worked in Dr. Sam's medical office from the 1940s until Waupaca Family Medicine Associates opened in 1976. She continued to work there with Dr. Jerry until she retired in the mid-90s.
She was an avid gardener and loved helping on the farm, in the berry patch, in several community gardens over the years and in the homes of her loved ones and eventually at the Bethany Home, where she spent her final years. She loved to help the staff with folding the laundry. She loved wheel chair races at Bethany with Ben, her great-nephew.
One of her very favorite things to do was pick strawberries at Turners. She was a regular at Turners, as well as King Berry and Silver Mist. She found great joy in these gardening centers. Mamie was one of the original members of the Seed 'em and Weed'em garden club in the 1960s, and loved helping care for the garden at Nels Rasmussen Park as well as the Historical House at South Park in Waupaca. She was a life long member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
Mamie was preceded in death by her brother Edward, her sisters, Emily (Martin) Plawski, Evelyn Minton and Lucille (Albert) Holly, and her nephews, Thomas L. Holly and James Minton and her niece Darlene Sarnowski.
