Marcille "Marcie" L. Apps' Obituary
Marcille “Marcie” Lola Apps was called to her heavenly home by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, October 15th, 2023. She was born in Berlin, Wisconsin on March 25th, 1938 to parents Henry and Viola Kirk. She grew up on a farm and in 4H she showed prize winning cows and clothing at the Winnebago County fair. Marcie graduated Berlin High School with honors in 1956. All through high school, Marcie played organ for church services and enjoyed playing both organ and piano.
Marcie attended Milwaukee School of Nursing in 1956, and UW Oshkosh in 1957. Marcie met Don Apps while she was working at the Majestic Restaurant in Oshkosh while Don was cutting hair at the Crystal Barbershop across the street. Don and Marcie were married on October 18, 1958 and made their home in Sheboygan. On November 7, 1959, they welcomed their first son, Marc.
In the late 1960s, Marcie earned her associates degree in accounting at Lakeshore Technical College and worked at Citizens Bank as a teller. Marcie did the accounting for Northgate Barbershop which she and Don both owned and operated. She also worked for H&R Block a few years during tax season. On March 4, 1970 2nd son Eric was born and later adopted by Don and Marcie through the Lutheran Children’s Friends Society. On July 9, 1973, Don and Marcie welcomed their 3rd son, Matt.
In 1982, Don and Marcie sold the barbershop, bought and successfully operated Grand Valley Campground in Kingston. In 1993, Don and Marcie were involved in a serious accident where both were hit by a car while walking across the street in Valdosta, Georgia.
In 1994, Don and Marcie sold the campground, moving to Neshkoro where Don continued to barber part-time while Marcie continued to do the accounting.
In 2001, Don and Marcie moved to Wild Rose to retire, though Don continued to cut hair in Neshkoro. Over the years, Marcie survived multiple bouts of cancer ultimately losing her right arm as a result. Marcie handled all these challenges with a can-do attitude as she re-learned how to manage daily tasks and still have beautiful penmanship with her left hand.
Marcie loved travel, music and spending time with her family. Marcie is preceded in death by parents Henry and Viola Kirk, sister Arlene Kirk and brother Robert (Donna) Kirk. Marcie is survived by her sister Violet (Bill) Daehling of Clarkston, Washington, sister-in-law Donna Kirk of Omro, husband Donald Apps, sons Marc (Rene) Apps, grandson Tyler (Deanna) of Chandler, Arizona, Eric Apps, granddaughter Cassidy (Cory) Anderson, great-grandson Weston, grandson Ashton Apps of Oshkosh and Matt (Sara) Apps, grandsons Ian and Becker Apps of Waunakee.
