Margaret Ludtke's Obituary
Margaret E. Ludtke, nee Enters, died on Sept. 12, 2008 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. She was 90 years old.
Margaret was born Dec. 31, 1917 in Milwaukee, the youngest of six children of Herman and Winifred Enters. Her siblings all predeceased her: Robert Enters, Arthur Enters, Winfred Enters, Raymond Enters, and Dorothy Wilke.
Margaret grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from St. John’s Cathedral High School and Milwaukee State Teacher’s College. During the war years, she was employed by the Weather Bureau.
On April 15, 1950, Margaret married Hugo Ludtke, and eventually settled in Hartland, where they raised seven children together.
After her children were all grown, Margaret began a 27-year career as a proofreader at Lake Country Publications in Hartland. She retired in 1999 at the age of 80.
Margaret suffered a stroke in 1999, after which she and Hugo moved to the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King. Hugo died July 17, 2001.
In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed bowling, golf, and playing cards. She belonged to St. Charles Catholic Church and Hartland Homemakers. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 188 of East Troy and La Societe de Femme Cabane 526 of Walworth County. It was through their affiliation with the Forty and Eight that she and Hugo had the opportunity to see much of the United States as delegates to the annual Promenade Nationale.
Survivors include her seven children: Peter (Sue) of Hartland, Philip (Donna) of Mukwonago, Beth (Ken Laatsch) of Watertown, Mary (Jim Cejka) of Phillips, Winnie (Tom Sear) of Cedarburg, John (Susan) of Waukesha and Tom (Judy Dorn) of Hartland. There are 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by one brother-in-law, Willis Ludtke (Patricia) of Elkhorn, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will greet friends Friday, Sept. 19 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Main Chapel, King Veterans Home, N2665 County Road QQ, King, WI, followed by Mass. Memorials are suggested to Voiture 526 Nurses Training Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
