Mary Samson's Obituary
Mary Samson (maiden name Fabio) of Amherst Junction, Wisconsin, formerly of Cleveland Heights & Solon, Ohio and Sarasota, Florida. Mary was born on 5/28/1922 in Cleveland, Ohio and died on 12/31/2013 at Northcrest Living Assistance facility after receiving compassionate and loving care from the staff and caregivers for over one year. Wife of George (deceased), mother of Sandra Lynne Schmutzler (Mark) of Amherst Junction, Wisconsin, Georgia Davis (David) of University Hts., Ohio and Marilynne Bolek (Ken) of Bradenton, Florida. Sister of Carmen Herald of Sun City, AZ; Nina Restifo (deceased), Roze Peterman (deceased) and Josephine Fabio (deceased). Grandmother to Scott Schmutzler (Diane), Todd Schmutzler, Melissa Davis, Michelle Davis, David Davis, Jr. (Jennifer), Joseph Davis (Rean), Ashley Davis and Lauren Bolek. Great Grandmother of Corina, Trish, Dakota and Harper. Aunt, second mother and friend to many. Mary's history is the history of Cleveland Heights, Ohio spending 56 years making a home at 1760 Lee Road. Mary lived for her parents, her husband, her sisters and her daughters. Mary, along with her sister, Josephine, were the ultimate hostesses, throwing parties for family and friends. She made Lee Road a joyous place filled with good Italian food, family and music. By her own admission, Mary was most proud of getting her driver's license and beginning a career outside of the home when she was 55 years old. Mary worked for Dr. Izant at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and everyone knew her as the woman who sewed infant dresses for the terminally ill babies and knitted them blankets so their mothers could see them in something other than hospital gowns When her husband of 60 years died, Mary moved to Sarasota, Florida to spend time in the sunshine with her youngest daughter and sister-in-law, Marie. She lived in Florida for five years, continuing her legacy of selflessness, by volunteering at the Selby Library, the Boys and Girls Club, lunching with her new friends and taking walks among the palm trees. Mary was able to spend one on one special time with each of her daughters, their husbands and children, and she was truly loved and treasured by her son in laws, Mark, David and Ken. Mary moved to her daughter's home in Wisconsin where she enjoyed being with Sandra Lynne who was her strongest advocate until the end of her life. Mary knew this day was coming but because of her Faith, she did not dread it, she accepted and even welcomed it. At this moment she is happily presiding over a heavenly table with her friend, Mae, who left much too soon, her parents, her sisters and brothers and George. When you remember Mary, think of her in the arms of our Blessed Mother who has carried her home to her Lord, Jesus Christ. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Gesu Catholic Church, 2470 Miramar Blvd., University Heights, Ohio. Private burial at a later date. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the Jensen Community Center, 487 North Main Street, Amherst Junction, Wisconsin 54406; the Women's Resource Center, 1926 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, Florida 34205 or Little Sisters of the Poor, 4291 Richmond Road, Warrensville Hts., Ohio 44122.
