Maxine L. Schleicher
Waupaca, WI (formerly of Wild Rose, WI) Maxine Lois (Thompson) Schleicher – age 89 - died peacefully at Bethany Home in Waupaca on October 18, 2012. She was born on Pine Hill Farm to Otto and Carrie (Jarvis) Thompson on December 24, 1922.
She was a graduate of Wautoma High School and then the Waushara County Teacher’s College. During the 1940’s she taught in several area country schools including Copenhagen, Chain O Lake, and Progressive. On June 8th, 1946 she married Orin Schleicher at the West Holden Lutheran Church, and they settled on the family farm in the Wild Rose area.
After her two children were old enough to attend school, Maxine went back to teaching in the Wild Rose School District. She also attended college at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She was to be the first Kindergarten teacher that Wild Rose hired. In that capacity she taught at Wild Rose, Dopp, and Pleasant View schools. She retired in 1983. She is remembered fondly by many former students in the Wild Rose area as a quiet and gentle teacher, and their first introduction to the world of “school”.
Maxine is survived by her husband, and the love of her life for 66 years, Orin Schleicher, her son: Boyd Kathy) Schleicher of Waunakee, her daughter: Sally (Keith) Schnese of Wild Rose, three grandchildren: Kirstin (Justin) Arndt, Matthew (Jackie) Schleicher, and Erich Schleicher, and three great grandchildren: Miranda and Linus Arndt, and Madeline Schleicher. She is also survived by one sister, Mildred Anderson of Wild Rose, and one sister-in-law, Lila Schultz of Waupaca. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters: Annabel Holt and Hulda Thompson.
A funeral service will be held at the Bethany Home Chapel in Waupaca, WI on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in the Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Cemetery, Twp. of Mt. Morris, Waushara County, WI. A visitation will be held at the Bethany Home Chapel on Monday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. The Holly Funeral Home of Wild Rose, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
Maxine was a lifelong member of the Mt. Morris/West Holden Lutheran Parish. She would have us remember one thing; know Jesus, live, walk, trust, and rest in him. This is, quite simply, how she lived her life.
