Age 64 – died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, WI. He was born on March 14, 1947 in Potage County, WI the son of Alfons and Johanna (Powalish) Ostrowski. He married Virginia Firkus on May 6, 1972 in Stevens Point.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Virginia, children; Jenni (Don) Lehman of Amherst, Chad (Jennifer) Ostrowski of Amherst Jct., Tracey (Marc) Stalter of Rosholt, and Robin (Troy) Werachowski of Amherst Jct., grandchildren; Devin and Noah Ostrowski, Mackenzie and Marcus Stalter, Dylan and Kasey Werachowski, and brothers; James (Cecilia) Ostrowski of Amherst Jct., and Daniel (Sandra) Ostrowski of Amherst Jct. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Maynard was preceded in death by his parents; Alfons and Johanna Ostrowski, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Ambrose Firkus and Marian Firkus.
Maynard farmed in the Amherst Jct. area for many years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Amherst. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War. He earned a number of medals and badges while in the service including a Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device, and Expert Rifleman Badge. He was a member of the Amherst V.F.W. Post 11346, and the Selma Voight American Legion Post 22 - Amherst. Family and farming were his passions and he especially enjoyed the time he could spend with his grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 11 AM at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst, with the Reverend Father Robert Pedretti, Celebrant. Military Honors followed by the interment will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Amherst. A visitation will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst on Tuesday evening from 4:00-8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the American Lung Association in memory of Maynard C. Ostrowski. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
