Michael Holden's Obituary
Michael A. Holden, age 47, of Amherst, WI., passed away on Monday, February 16th, 2009 surrounded by family and friends at Aspirus Wausau Hospital due to complications with his fourth battle against leukemia. He was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI., on April 3, 1961, a son of Leon and Mary (Saindon) Holden. Michael graduated from Almond High school and attended college in LaCrosse and UW Stevens Point. Michael married Jane Dreyer on July 9, 1988 in Waupaca. Survivors include his Wife: Jane Holden, Amherst, WI; 3 Daughters: Melanie (Special Friend-Steve Whitlow) Holden, Milwaukee, WI; Ashley Holden, Amherst, WI; Ariel Holden, Amherst, WI; Father: Leon (Nancy) Holden, Plainfield, WI; Mother: Mary (Lee) Meeks, Gautier, MS; Sister: Paula (Greg) Sumpter, Oak Grove, MN; Brother: William (Jennifer) Holden, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Half-Brother: Jonathon Meeks, Grafton, WI; Step-Sisters: Julie (Patrick) Goodwin, Anchorage, AK; Kim (Special Friend-Ben Krueger) VanderKoii, Appleton, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents - George and Alice Saindon and Herbert and Agnes Holden. Funeral Services will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 21st, 2009, with Reverend Jonathan Sachs, officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated. A fund has been established at the International Bank of Amherst. His hobbies included home remodeling, scuba diving, his salt water fish tank, his snake No Feet, raising miniature donkeys and being outdoors. He loved sports but had a passion for girls basketball.. He had great pleasure in coaching his two younger daughters through the elementary and middle school years in basketball. He enjoyed watching the high school girls basketball teams excel. He considered so many girls on the team as daughters. Michael touched so many lives in many special ways. Special thanks to the love and support of his family and friends. Thanks to Doctor Gautam and his nursing staff at the Aspirus Regional Cancer Center. Thank you to the nursing staff on their Oncology unit at Aspirus Hospital. Together, they were able to keep his family together four more wonderful years. Michael will be greatly missed but remembering the love he gave his family will live in their hearts forever. God has a special plan for him. We know he is watching and guiding them from above.
