Mildred M. Stanke
Stevens Point, WI (formerly of Nelsonville)
Age 93 – passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Ministry St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point, WI. She was born on August 21, 1918 in Shantytown, Twp. of Bevent, Marathon County, WI, the daughter of Myron and Ella (Bentley) Barnes. She married Bernard J. Stanke on September 12, 1936 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Stevens Point, WI. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1996.
Mildred is survived by her son: Bernard L. (Mary) Stanke, Jr. of Eagle River, daughter: Ella Weetz of Amherst, grandchildren: Stephanie Heritage of Winona, MN, Jim Stanke of Eagle River, David (Lisa) Weetz of Jim Falls, Greg (Crystal) Weetz of Catawba, and Shelly (Joe) Murphy of Amherst. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard J. Stanke, Sr., grandson: Michael Weetz, and two sisters: Annie (Kenneth) Higgins and Edna (Harold) Berndt.
Mildred and Bernard had owned and operated Stanke’s Service Station in Nelsonville for many years. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her family and friends. She also enjoyed polka dancing, fishing, and hunting. She especially enjoyed the times she could be with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Amherst.
A funeral mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Amherst, WI on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 10:30 AM, with Father Robert Pedretti, Celebrant. Interment will be in St. James Catholic Cemetery in Amherst. A visitation will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst on Monday evening from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, and at the church on Tuesday morning one hour prior to the funeral mass. A Rosary service will be held at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home on Monday evening at 7:00 PM. The Jungers-Holly Funeral Home of Amherst, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
