Myra J. Oppor's Obituary
Myra June Oppor, age 96, entered her heavenly home on December 10, 2025. She was born on July 9, 1929 in the Town of Little Wolf to the late Edwin “Mayford” and Lida (Cornell) Terrio. She grew up on the Terrio farm west of Manawa and loved to share stories of the joys, challenges and heartaches of farm life “in those good old days”. Even in the late stages of dementia, she could quickly recite the names of the eleven cows in her father’s barn--Maggie, Judy, Tilly, Snowball, Fanny, Speckles, Dot, Dusky, Rosy, Spot and “little” Jenny plus her three favorite draft horses—Dan, Daisy and Pretty. She will be fondly remembered for her smile, laughter, wit, spunk, work ethic, creativity, resourcefulness, seemingly endless energy and sass and her weekly pies--quite possibly the best on the planet.
Myra attended Manawa Elementary School and Little Wolf High School, graduating in 1947. She worked as a secretary in the high school office for three years after graduation.
On October 3, 1947, she married her sweetheart, Earl Oppor— “the most handsome guy at the dance”. For the next 62 years, they would reside in the village of Ogdensburg, starting out their married life in a 26-foot, 1948 Indian trailer, with no running water, electricity, or shade. She always spoke fondly of those years because their boundless young love for one another far outweighed the discomforts and inconveniences. However, when they began to plan their family, they needed a house. The little yellow house in “the Burg” thrice remodeled, would be their cherished home for 59 years.
In addition to her years as a high school secretary, until the time of her retirement, Myra worked in Waupaca for Larson’s Cleaners, The Farmer’s State Bank, the Waupaca County Register of Deeds office, and Fleet Farm. During the seven years that she and Earl lived in Buffalo, WY in the late 70s to early 80s, she worked as a clerk in the local hardware store. The adventures of their Buffalo years produced volumes of memories and numerous friendships. They adored the scenic area.
The activities and hobbies that brought Myra great joy included photography, crafting, sketching, writing poetry, gardening, feeding the many wild birds that knew where the best smorgasbord in Ogdensburg was located, and traveling with Earl (particularly to “anywhere with mountains”); caring for the numerous cats, horses, dogs and farm animals that graced her life; planting and nurturing thousands of flowers that brought a profusion of color to their yard every Summer; and last, but by no means least— spending precious time with their grandchildren.
Myra is survived by daughter Judy (Steve) Paulson of Ogdensburg; grandson Jacob (Rachel) Paulson of Waupaca; daughter-in-law Melanie Oppor of Ripon; granddaughter Jennifer (Brice) Oppor Blankenship of Phoenix, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in 2010 by her beloved husband of 62 years; a son David in 2024; 7 brothers-in-law; 7 sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Myra’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ellen Wenberg and the devoted staff at Bethany Home in Waupaca for the compassionate care they provided over the course of her 13-year residency. A special thank you to Krissy H and all others who were with Myra for every one of those 13 years. Myra’s family is also grateful for the kind and caring Heartland Hospice staff.
Per Myra’s request, there will be no memorial service. A burial of cremains will take place in Spring with immediate family attending.
Given Myra’s passionate love for all animals, she would be so pleased if you would consider donating in her memory to the Humane Society of Waupaca County.
Dear Mom and Grandma-- Thank you for everything. Rest easy in the arms of the angels. We miss you and love you to the farthest galaxies and back. See you soon.
