Myron E. “Mike” Solberg
Waupaca, WI Age 88 – died on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca, WI. He was born on November 20, 1920 in the Township of Stanley, Barron County, WI, the son of Erick and Nannie (Nelson) Solberg. He married Hazel Helgeson on July 27, 1944 in Northland, WI. She preceded him in death on March 13, 2005. Mike is survived by three sons; Mick (Mary) Solberg of Waupaca, Robert (Mary Jo) Solberg of Waupaca, and Lee (Paula) Solberg of Waupaca, grandchildren; Kathleen (Tom) Winghart of Brookings, SD, Michelle (Euan) Ford of Madison, Ryan (Jenny) Solberg of Iola, Jamie Lee Solberg of Waupaca, and Michael Solberg of Waupaca, great grandchildren; Megan Marie Winghart, Hunter Thomas Winghart, Parker Andrew Winghart, Karissa Paige Winghart, and Carter Ryan Solberg, sisters; Marcella Anderson of Minneapolis, MN, and Doris (Jim) Miller of Tampa, Fl, brothers; Clarence (Jeanette) Solberg of Minneapolis, MN, Lloyd (Phyllis) Solberg of West Allis, WI, Orin (Terrie) Solberg of Minneapolis, MN, Emery (Nancy) Solberg of Northfield, MN, Alton “Hank” (Karin) Solberg of Longwood, FL, sisters-in-law; Arlene Solberg of Appleton, and Edna Tschurwald of Iola, and a special niece; Gloria (Don) Greenwood of St. Louis, MO. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; Hazel, a daughter-in-law; Marjorie Solberg, his parents, a sister; Ruth Brocker, a brother; Hilmar Solberg, and an infant brother. Mike had been a Power Plant operator at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, WI for over 20 years. Prior to moving to Waupaca he had farmed in the Iola area for many years. He had served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a radio operator. He had received a number of citations and decorations for his service in the military. Mike was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca. While living in the Iola area he had been an active member of the Northland Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, and having served as the Church Council president. He enjoyed all sports, especially fishing and playing golf. He always enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren as they participated in sports at Waupaca High School. He had been awarded the Waupaca Comet Fan of the Year Award. Mike was also an avid Waupaca Lakemen, Milwaukee Brewer, and Green Bay Packer fan. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waupaca, WI with the Reverend Dr. Charles Tews, officiating. Interment and military rites will be in the Central Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at King. A visitation will be held at the Holly Funeral Home in Waupaca on Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, and at the church on Tuesday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in the name of Myron E. Solberg. The Holly Funeral Home of Waupaca, WI is assisting the family with arrangements.
