MYRON “MIKE” J. SOPA
AMHERST, WISCONSIN Age 86, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Crystal River Nursing Home in Waupaca, WI. He was born June 15, 1924 in the Town of Buena Vista, Portage Co., WI; son of Charles F. and Susan (Palash) Sopa. On October 26, 1946, Myron married Maryann Patoka in the Town of Stockton. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1985. Myron worked at the Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee until returning to the Amherst area. He worked at the Portage Co. Highway Dept. until his retirement in 1986 and also farmed for many years in the Amherst area. He was a dedicated Amherst softball fan for many years, and lately he was known as the “Custer Greeter”. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Susan Sopa; his wife, Maryann Sopa; a granddaughter, Christina Sopa; four brothers, Harry, Gregory, Richard, and Donnie Sopa; and one sister, Irene Pogorzelski. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Amherst, WI. Father Robert Konkol will preside. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, May 3, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at the Jungers-Holly Funeral Home in Amherst with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM. A visitation will also be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church on Wednesday morning. Burial will be at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery following the mass on Wednesday.
