I served on the same sip as Gary. I really don't know what to say at times like these, but I do know he was a good man who loved his family and all around him. He will be a big loss in your lives. My condolences and I'd like to think he's teaching the gospel now to those that never heard or rejected it. Love to all.
It is with heavy heart that I write this message. Gary was the most awesome big brother & husband anyone could ask for. His leaving was such a shock to all. My heart goes out to all of you & know he's where he wants to be. God bless you all.
Sweet Violet - You know I love you and I loved Gary. I am still crying in my heart at his passing but knowing full well that is what he preached -
I served on the USS Basilone with Gary during the World Cruise and VietNam. Gary was always true to himself and to God. I'm fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him. My sincerest condolences.
I served with Gary aboard the USS Basilone in 1972. We didn't work together so we weren't familiar, but about 15 years ago I found his name on the roster of the Tin Can Sailors web page. So I sent him an email and we talked often. We shared many interests and had similar views on a wide range of topics. Gary's insight and point of view gave me much to think about and brought me closer to my Lord and at a time when I was in serious need of Him.
I celebrate our friendship and the time we shared in conversation. May the peace of the Lord be with his Family.
